I am an independent Counter-Terrorism and High-Risk Security Risk Consultant with over 30 years of policing and corporate security experience, retiring from the police as a Chief Inspector. Throughout my career I worked across a number of specialist disciplines - including emergency response policing, project management, and counter-terrorism - before transitioning into private sector consultancy in 2024. Within the corporate sector I have worked within the oil & gas, renewables, CNI sites, private equity, motorsports, hospitality, higher education and event arena.
As an accredited Counter Terrorism Security Coordinator (CT SecCo) and holder of the Advanced Diploma in Counter-Terrorism Risk Management, I have spent my career operating at the intersection of complex threat environments and practical organisational response. That combination of strategic understanding and ground-level operational experience is what I bring to every client I work with.
Operational Background
My policing career included some of the most demanding and high-profile security operations in the UK:
- COP26 — Protective security planning and delivery for the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, one of the largest and most complex security operations in recent UK history
- Royal Household Deployments — Delivered protective security support for Royal Household operations, requiring the highest standards of threat assessment and risk management
- International Protected Persons Operations — Provided security coordination for the protection of internationally protected persons in high-threat environments
- Counter-Terrorism Advisory — Worked extensively as a Counter-Terrorism Security Coordinator, advising organisations and venues on threat mitigation and protective security measures
- International Sporting Events and International Music Concerts - Protective security planning for a large number of international large scale sporting events and concerts, including The Scottish Open, International Cycling, Taylor Swift, The Eagles, to name but a few.
- Emergency Response — Senior leadership in emergency response policing across complex, time-critical operational environments
Corporate & Commercial Security Experience
Alongside my operational policing career, I have delivered security consultancy, assurance and preparedness work across a wide range of complex corporate and commercial environments:
- Major Events, Motorsport and Hospitality — Conducted security and vulnerability assessments within the events sector, including high‑profile Formula One motorsport and international music environments. This work focused on crowd safety, hostile reconnaissance, access control, secure perimeters and operational resilience in dynamic, high‑footfall settings.
- Oil, Gas, Renewables & Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) — Delivered security and counter‑terrorism risk assessments and vulnerability audits across energy and infrastructure environments, including CNI sites and associated supply chains. Work included assessment of physical security, personnel risk, site interfaces and proportionate mitigation against current threat levels.
- Private Equity & Financial Services — Worked with private banks and private equity firms reviewing security policies, procedures and governance frameworks, alongside physical and operational security measures. Identified vulnerabilities and provided proportionate, defensible recommendations aligned to business risk appetite, regulatory expectations and insurer scrutiny.
- Bespoke Security & Counter‑Terrorism Training — Designed and delivered tailored training programmes for corporate organisations, translating counter‑terrorism principles into practical guidance that improves staff awareness, preparedness and decision‑making across diverse sectors.
- Table‑Top Exercising & Scenario Testing — Developed and facilitated bespoke table‑top exercises to test organisational readiness for counter‑terrorism and serious security incidents. These exercises supported senior leadership and operational teams in rehearsing decision‑making under pressure, identifying gaps in plans, policies and response arrangements.

All engagements are individually scoped and quoted following an initial conversation about your requirements. There is no standard price list because no two organisations, and no two assessments, are the same.
What I can tell you is that my fees reflect the level of experience, expertise and personal attention I bring to every engagement, and that the cost of a professional security assessment is invariably modest compared to the cost of the vulnerabilities it identifies.

Is Your Organisation Ready for Martyn's Law?
Martyn’s Law – formally the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 – places new legal duties on organisations responsible for certain premises and events across the UK. The Act requires proportionate, risk‑led and documented steps to reduce the risk of harm to the public in the event of a terrorist attack. With the Section 27 statutory guidance now published, organisations within scope should be actively preparing for compliance.
What the law requires depends on your tier:
Standard Tier (200–799 capacity)
Responsible persons must ensure appropriate public protection procedures are in place and that staff understand how to implement them.
Enhanced Tier (800+ capacity) and Qualifying Events
Additional duties apply, including a documented risk and vulnerability assessment, security and procedural documentation, and designation of a senior individual responsible for oversight and compliance.
